This is the fuse box from the Yak-18T. It's an aluminum enclosure packed full of genuine soviet fuses, relays, and wiring on the inside. These fuses protect the avionics and electronic instruments from further damage if they malfunction or if there is a wiring problem. It's important to note that these fuses cannot be reset when they blow, and must be replaced. Modern aircraft generally use circuit breakers that can be reset if needed.
Contained within the box are slots for 11 fuses. A couple were missing when we got the unit. The fuses have different amperage ratings and are split into 4 groups based on the systems that they protect.
A very nice schematic diagram is adhered to the inside of the top cover, which correlates each fuse and relay contact to its respective connector pin.
There is a single 32-pin connector on the fuse box that would accept the plug from the main wiring harness, feeding power to the avionics and electronics.
Taking a look inside the fuse box, we can see some very clean and uniform soviet-era wiring.
In addition to the fuse holder contacts are three soviet relays located above the connector.
We tested one of the fuses by applying nearly double its rated current. It popped pretty quickly and broke the circuit. A small spring-loaded pin popped up from the center of the fuse. It's not resettable and just springs back up when pushed down.
